dolob has launched!

 

I am proud to announce the launch of my new company, dolob studio.

dolob studio is a product design, fabrication and sales company specializing in modern wooden home furniture.  For any of you who are familiar with my old company SHH! Design & Fabrication, you will find all of the SHH! products now available through dolob studio.

So what is dolob and why did I choose it for the name of my new company?

The first time I used dolob was as my on-line name in chat rooms back in 2007.  I chose it then because its visual symmetry appealed to me and it was unique.

As far as I can tell, dolob has no meaning of its own.  It is a fabricated word. It is specifically because dolob has no meaning that I chose it.  Any meaning it takes on will be due to my efforts.

So, moving forward I will endeavor to show through example what dolob means to me.  I hope you enjoy the designs and if you would like anything you see for your very own, contact me and we'll make your favorite piece especially for you.

Boomerang Table in Natural Maple

True to its name, this boomerang table that I built back in 2003, came back to me yesterday. This is a picture of me picking up the table from Ryan (glasses), completing it's boomerang journey.
Ryan has lots of cool furniture at his place, including a vintage boomerang-style table from the 50's.
Oh yeah, and I hear he just got married! Congratulations! (His new wife took the picture for us :)

I've been calling this project the dining nook since it began, although it is quite large.
The bench seating makes room for many people, especially groups of kids!
The mahogany wood will darken slightly and richen in color over the years.
I really enjoyed making this piece and am super happy with how it came out.
